Our Wife Cake, also known as Lou Por Beng, is a traditional Cantonese pastry originating from Guangdong. Filled with sweet winter melon paste and encased in flaky pastry, it’s commonly associated with celebration and gifting. Its name comes from a folk story about love and sacrifice, where a wife’s devotion helped her husband create a pastry that would later become widely known.
Filled with sweet winter melon paste and wrapped in flaky pastry, Wife Cake is now enjoyed as a symbol of care and tradition, commonly shared with family and friends.
